Mrs. Brennick's Educational History
My History as a Teacher
I first started out my teaching career as a preschool teacher in 1985 at a progressive preschool in Newton, Mass. In 1988, I began teaching at the Cornerstone School, a private Montessori school for children ages 2 ½ to 15 years old, in Stratham N.H. I taught at Cornerstone for over eleven years, and nine of those years as a head teacher in a mixed- age, three to six-year-old classroom. In 1999, I decided to take a short leave from the classroom and return to college in order to become certified to teach in the public school system. During those years, I focused my studies on special education, early literacy instruction, child advocacy, and the most current developmental theories now burgeoning in the early childhood field.
In May of 2001, I received my Masters in Early Childhood with a Special Education Option, which represents two years of intense theoretical and practical training in inclusion, developmentally appropriate practice, various avenues of assessment, and creative methods of curriculum integration. Also, I hold a B.A. in Theater and Communications from the University of New Hampshire and a National Montessori Certification from the American Montessori Society. In 2010, I completed a 4 summer literacy program and received a second Masters in English at the UNH Literacy Institute.
In June of 2001, I was thrilled to be offered the job at Hilltop School in Somersworth, N.H. In the fall of 2011, along with my Hilltop colleagues, I moved to a brand new first grade classroom at the newly opened Idlehurst Elementary School. This year, I was offered the full day kindergarten position at Idlehurst. I am looking forward to inventing enticing new learning activities and ready to meet the challenge of working with Idlehurst’s youngest students. It is a privilege to be working as a teacher in Somersworth N.H and serve the students and families who attend Idlehurst Elementary School.
